OPTIMUM INSIGHTS for April 2024

Welcome to April! Hopefully by the time this monthly is published we will be experiencing Springtime with warmer weather, longer days and everything turning green.

Retirement planning is a much talked-about topic that we see almost everywhere. It can be overwhelming with information and with all the different experts that talk about the best way to do "retirement”.

A question that I have for You: how many times are You going to “retire”? You generally only have one shot at this, so the pressure is on to get it right. With that in mind, we would like to share a few things that we have learned and experienced that we hope are helpful for “retirement Planning”:

Know the time frame that You are planning for. Remember the old rule of Time vs. Timing as it is easier to plan for 20 years before retirement than for 2 years. And remember that You are planning for many years of retirement.

Have multiple sources for Retirement – As the old saying goes, don’t put all of your “eggs in one basket”. The more sources, the better and I have seen articles that point out having 3 sources at minimum and those sources should have distinctive differences such as Pre-tax vs. Post Tax or Income vs Growth.

Start with Income, Income and more Income. Most people today are not fortunate enough to have one of those old-fashioned "pensions."  if you do, that is a great retirement source and if not then You should try to replicate creating Your own “pension like” Income. Retirement IS about income that continues in retirement with the least amount of risk of that income running out. That is your foundation for Retirement.

Growth and lots of Growth: This is a source that can be most exciting when markets go up and most frustrating when markets go down. And markets do both of those things. Growth should be a part of and a source of retirement planning, but because of its characteristics, it cannot be Your only source for retirement. This adds to Your Foundation of Income.

Last but not least, work with someone who has experience of getting people to and thru retirement.

As always if you have any questions feel free to reach out to us at any time as we are always happy to help.

Thank you!
