Popsicles Were Invented by Accident
Eleven-year-old Frank Epperson inadvertently created the popsicle in 1905 by leaving his soda with a stirring stick outside on his porch overnight. The cold night air froze the soda, leaving the stick upright. The “Epsicle” was born! The name popsicle was created by Frank’s own kids who called his invention “Pop’s ‘sicle.” Frank liked the name so much, he patented it in 1923.1
